Gaming Commissions serve a purpose, as shown again in Colorado. The Commission levied fines against nine Colorado casinos.  A Central City casino has been fined for problems with its accounting reports. The Commission levied a $100,000 fine at Central City Casino for not producing required statistical reports.  Casinos are required to file reports regularly with the Gaming Commission.  The Attorney General said that they couldn’t verify the earnings of the casino.  The same casino was fined $87,500 in July for operating illegal slot machines. A casino official was also fined and another lost his license. Nine other casinos in the state were fined for having outdated slot machines software or defective slot machines.  They were fined $250 to $8,000.   Five other Colorado casinos were fined for violations involving slot machines in the past few months. In each of these cases the Commission said the customer was not affected by the violations.

Casinos function under very strict state regulations.  They must strictly comply with reporting various statistics and revenues.  They must also comply with regulations regarding equipment and software.  Each new slot machine is checked by the Commission’s staff within ninety days of its arrival.  The purpose of the Gaming Commission is to protect the public. This is why they require so many reports.  The casinos cannot change the payouts or anything with filing with the Commission.  When the Commission finds any irregularities, they act immediately. This isn’t only true in Colorado. It’s true of all state gaming commissions.
